Riverdale picked up a home sweep against Oakland Tuesday night, with the Lady Warriors winning 66-52 on a near historic night for senior Alasia Hayes.

Meanwhile, Riverdale's boys shocked Oakland (10-3) 57-51 to eliminate the Patriots from winning the regular-season District 7-AAA title.

Senior guard Hayes poured in 43 points on 13 of 20 shooting, including 10 of 12 from the free throw line.

“My teammates helped me get open, and when they do their job becomes my job to score,” Hayes said. “I play for my team and we play to win.”

Hayes fell two points short of the Riverdale girls single-game record currently held by RHS Hall of Famer Anne Marie Lanning.

Riverdale’s offense got hot early behind Hayes’ 13 first-quarter points to lead 17-10. The Lady Warriors outscored Oakland 23-12 in the second quarter and headed into the break with a 40-22 advantage.

“(Hayes) gets all her looks because her teammates stepped up and did their jobs to get her open,” Riverdale coach Amy Josephson said. “We have relied on (Hayes) to score, but we play such better team basketball when we find ways to get her open and play together like we did tonight.”

Oakland trimmed the deficit down to 11 midway through the third quarter, but Hayes and company always found an answer. Ella Haney scored twice from beyond the arc to create separation on the scoreboard and become the second double-digit scorer for Riverdale. She scored 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting.

“(Haney) had two big 3s for us when they keyed on (Hayes), which is all a part of playing together,” Josephson said. “We still need to work on the little things and make defense our priority and translate that focus into the game.”

Claira McGowan led the Lady Patriots with 19 points.

Riverdale avenged an early season, 19-point setback against Oakland with a come-from-behind win against the Patriots, who entered the game tied with Siegel and a game back of Blackman.

“We have gotten better as the year has gone on and we are trying to put together a complete 32 minutes and avoid bad stretches that we never bounce back from,” Riverdale coach Michael Voss said. “At one point we trailed by 10 in the third quarter and we made plays when it mattered, and you love to see that from a young team.”

Riverdale trailed for three and a half quarters before a pair of Javon Nelson free throws put the Warriors ahead with 4:53 of the fourth. Nelson’s free throws came amidst an 8-0 run that grew their lead to 47-42 with three minutes remaining.

Santonio McDaniel scored eight points in the final frame, including six straight over a span of 90 seconds. Riverdale shot 10 of 12 from the free-throw line to deter any comeback.

“(McDaniel) has taken over running the team as a point guard and is playing more mature for our team lately,” Voss says of his sophomore after his clutch 16-point night.

Riverdale's Warriors’ CJ Johnson contributed 17 points while shooting 3 of 4 from the 3-point line. s
