Smyrna soccer beats Hendersonville 2-1 in region tourney

Smyrna's soccer team avenged a loss against Hendersonville in the region tournament on Tuesday night with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory.

District MVP Kevin Oulas showed his prowess, scoring both goals, and district freshman of the year Travis Hagar shined at goalkeeper for the Bulldogs.

Hendersonville struck first at the 28th minute and took a 1-0 lead at the break.

However, it was Oulas' time to shine as he scored two-second half goals to lead the Bulldogs to the next round against Station Camp on Thursday at home at 5 p.m.

"The first half was really back and forth attacking wise," Smyrna coach Brigan Gogan said. "We had more opportunities but at the 28-minute mark they scoredd.

"The second ahfls we scored in the first six minutes and under 20 minutes. We had several opportunites after that. We missed a shot off the goal, but this was a huge win for. We haven't been to the state since 2013. They eat us last year in overtime. We were behind, but we've shown we can come back."

Smyrna will be in the state sectionals Saturday regardless of Thursday's outcome.

"We've got a really young team, but very good seniors as well," Grogan said. "This team has really showed a lot of resolve all year. We might be down 3-0, but we've shown the ability to bounce back."
