Stewarts Creek’s soccer team fell in the opening round of the state tournament for the second straight year, falling 3-0 to Houston Friday in the TSSAA state tournament at Siegel Park.
Houston opened the scoring early with a goal in the first minute from Parker Gelinas in the right corner of the net.
Houston dominated possession the whole 80 minutes as Stewarts Creek only put one shot on goal the whole match.
“Houston has an outstanding team,” Stewarts Creek coach Jeff Marlow said. “They are well coached and well organized. We made some adjustments where we were not chasing as much in the second half.
“Houston was picked to win it and with 20 minutes left the score was 1-0 and we were right there.”
In the 13th minute a shot went off of one of the Stewarts Creek’s defenders and into the net by Sydney Somogyi.
“They had to move two of their forwards back to defense and they were tired, and once we possessed and controlled the ball it helped us,” said Houston coach David Wolff, whose team improved to 13-0. “It also helps when we score in the first minute as well.”
