WC Schools have been allowing only 25 percent capacity at gyms due to rising COVID-19 numbers.
Wilson County has set a 7-day record of new COVID-19 cases on each of the last 9 days.
Sports impacted include the varsity basketball, wrestling and bowling programs at Green Hill, Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Watertown and Wilson Central High Schools as well as all county middle schools.
"When looking at the big picture, the district wants a safe experience for the student athletes and anyone who attends," said Bart Barker, Public Information Officer for the school system.
"By taking this action now, we’re hopeful it prevents no further competition disruptions as we get into January.
"It’s a sacrifice and it’s disappointing, but the hope is that we can use this time to take care of our teams, staffs and other extracurricular groups with eyes on restoring a higher degree of normalcy in 2021 for everyone.
"The district feels that by doing this now will only help in trying to accomplish that."
Games / matches already planned for Friday, Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 18 will be held as scheduled.
