MJ Christian will play at home in 2021 -
Mt. Juliet Christian Academy is making plans to play its 2021 home football schedule back on campus at Suey Field.
Thanks to the March 2020 tornado that decimated the campus and athletic facilities, the Saints played home games at nearby Mt. Juliet Middle School's Barry "Butch" Wilmore Field while the girls soccer team played all its matches on the road.
Repairs to Suey Field are coming along nicely with light poles having been erected, bleachers are being re-fitted and hooded LED lights will soon to be mounted on the poles.
Plans call for a modern pressbox to be built on the East side of Suey Field to replace an old wooden structure that was destroyed by the tornado. A new scoreboard is on campus along with replacement goal posts that will be installed once other repairs are complete.
Construction on the adjacent baseball and softball fields will begin in earnest once the football/soccer field is ready for competition.
The Saints are scheduled to open the 2021 season at home Friday, Aug. 27 against Friendship Christian School.
Dan Davis is preparing MJCA for his eighth season as head football coach. His record over the previous seven seasons is 31-43.
The Saints presently sport a roster of just over 20 players (grades 9 thru 12) with a five-man senior class.
Retired Metro Nashville coaching veteran Tommy Wilson coordinates the defensive side of the ball for the Saints with former Philadelphia Eagle and Vanderbilt standout Brenard Wilson coaching the secondary.
Key returnees include: JaMarion Thomas (WR/DB, Sr.), Kam Curtis (RB/LB, Sr.), Tyler Barnes (WR/DB, Sr.), Brice Simpson (OL/DL, Sr.), Tristian Carter (WR/DB, Sr.) and Noah Kleinmann (QB/ATH, Jr.)
NOTES - Teams that have completed the TSSAA mandated heat acclimatization protocols will be allowed to don full pads Monday, July 26.
Any new player joining a team from this point forward must go through the heat acclimatization process before being cleared for full pads.
